Target Information

Bcl-2 related Protein A1 (BCL2A1) is a member of the BCL-2 protein family involved in apoptosis regulation.
These proteins form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- and pro-apoptotic regulators, participating in processes such as embryonic development, homeostasis, and tumorigenesis.
BCL2A1 reduces the release of pro-apoptotic cytochrome c from mitochondria and blocks caspase activation.
It is a direct transcription target of NF-kappa B and is upregulated by extracellular signals like GM-CSF, CD40, phorbol ester, TNF, and IL-1, suggesting a cytoprotective role essential for lymphocyte activation and cell survival.
