Product Specific Information

A 1:1,000 dilution of PA5-77791 was sufficient for detection of MMP7 in 10 µg of rat kidney cell lysates by ECL immunoblot analysis using goat anti-rabbit IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody. Detects a 29.7 kDa protein.

Target Information

Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of the extracellular matrix in physiological processes such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in pathological processes including arthritis and metastasis.
Most MMPs are secreted as inactive proproteins that are activated upon cleavage by extracellular proteinases.
The enzyme encoded by this gene degrades proteoglycans, fibronectin, elastin, and casein, and differs from most MMP family members in that it lacks a conserved C-terminal protein domain.
It plays a role in wound healing and may regulate defensin activity in intestinal mucosa. The gene is part of a cluster of MMP genes localized to chromosome 11q22.3.
