Target Information
Felvizumab is a biosimilar antibody that targets respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). RSV belongs to the Paramyxoviridae family, subfamily Pneumovirinae, and causes common respiratory tract infections. Its genome is a single-stranded, negative-sense RNA encoding three envelope glycoproteins:
- SH protein (unknown function)
- G protein (attachment protein)
- F protein (fusion protein)
The F protein induces cell membrane fusion, forming syncytia. While RSV typically causes mild symptoms in adults, it is a major cause of lower respiratory tract infections and hospitalizations in infants and young children.
