Foravirumab은 광견병 바이러스(Rabies virus)를 표적으로 하는 바이오시밀러 항체로, 예방적(phrophylaxis) 용도로 사용됩니다.
Rabies virus(Neurotropic lyssavirus)는 Rhabdoviridae 계열에 속하는 단일가닥 음성 RNA 바이러스입니다.
이 바이러스는 5개의 단백질(당단백질, 핵단백질 등)을 암호화하며, 탄환 모양의 구조를 가지고 있습니다.
외피는 지질막과 단백질 코트로 구성되어 있으며, 표면에는 길이 5–10 nm, 직경 3 nm의 당단백질 돌기가 있습니다.
바이러스의 평균 길이는 약 780 nm이며, 지질 용매에 의해 감염성이 소실됩니다.
Rabies virus는 다양한 숙주를 감염시킬 수 있는 매우 성공적인 바이러스이며, 중추신경계(CNS)를 침범하여 마비와 사망을 초래하는 급성 감염을 유발합니다.
매년 약 50,000명의 인명 피해를 일으키는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
