UBA6 (UBE1L2, MOP-4)는 유비퀴틴 활성화 효소(E1) 계열에 속하는 새로운 E1 효소로, 유비퀴틴(Ub)을 기질 단백질에 공유 결합시키는 반응에 관여합니다. UBA6는 ATP를 이용해 유비퀴틴의 카르복시 말단 글리신 잔기를 아데닐화하고, 이를 E1 효소의 시스테인 잔기에 결합시켜 유비퀴틴-E1 티오에스터와 AMP를 생성합니다. 이 효소의 아이소폼은 정자 형성과 남성 생식력에 영향을 미치며, 인간 단핵구에서 높은 발현을 보입니다.
