STAT5 alpha는 STAT 전사인자 패밀리에 속하는 단백질로, 사이토카인 및 성장인자 자극에 의해 인산화되어 핵으로 이동 후 전사 활성화 역할을 수행합니다.
STAT5α는 IL2, IL3, IL7, GM-CSF, erythropoietin, thrombopoietin 등 다양한 리간드에 의해 활성화되며, TEL/JAK2 융합 유전자와 관련된 종양 형성에도 관여합니다.
또한, STAT5α는 BCL2L1/BCL-X(L) 발현을 유도하여 항아폽토시스 기능을 가지며, 생식, 수유, 면역, 성장 등 다양한 생리 기능에 중요합니다.
STAT5α와 STAT5β는 높은 서열 유사성을 가지며 대부분의 조직에서 함께 발현됩니다.
