Target Information
Caspase 8 (CASP8) is a member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family, playing a central role in the execution phase of apoptosis. It exists as an inactive proenzyme that is activated through proteolytic processing to form a heterodimeric enzyme. Caspase 8 interacts with FADD and is involved in Fas-mediated cell death. It has been linked to neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington’s disease. Overexpression induces apoptosis, which can be blocked by ICE family inhibitors. Multiple spliced transcript variants exist.
