Target Information
This gene encodes a voltage-gated delayed potassium channel that is phylogenetically related to the Drosophila Shaker channel.
The encoded protein has six transmembrane segments, with the S5–S6 loop forming the pore and containing the conserved selectivity filter motif.
The functional channel is a homotetramer. The N-terminus associates with beta subunits that modulate inactivation and expression levels, while the C-terminus interacts with PDZ domain proteins responsible for channel targeting.
Mutations in this gene are associated with myokymia with periodic ataxia.
