Target Information
PRKG1 is a cGMP-dependent serine/threonine kinase that plays an important role in the relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and inhibition of platelet aggregation. It regulates cardiovascular and neuronal functions, smooth muscle tone, and cell growth. This gene is strongly expressed in smooth muscle, platelets, cerebellar Purkinje cells, hippocampal neurons, and the lateral amygdala. Isoforms Iα and Iβ share identical cGMP-binding and catalytic domains but differ in their leucine/isoleucine zipper and autoinhibitory sequences, resulting in differences in dimerization substrates and kinase activity.
