Target Information
AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a heterotrimeric complex acting as a sensor of cellular energy levels. Activation of AMPK regulates metabolic pathways in liver, skeletal muscle, heart, adipose tissue, and pancreas. Dysregulation of AMPK signaling is linked to obesity and type 2 diabetes, where insulin resistance is prominent in skeletal muscle. Activation of AMPK is of interest for therapeutic research in type 2 diabetes.
