Target Information
Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) plays an important role in lipid metabolism in plasma and is a constituent of various plasma lipoprotein-lipid particles. It is synthesized in the liver, brain, spleen, and kidney, with high concentrations found in interstitial fluids. Apo E helps distribute cholesterol from cells with excess cholesterol to those requiring it and contributes to the formation of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and chylomicrons. The Apo E gene is located on chromosome 19 at position 19q13.2.
