Target Information

The Kidins220 gene encodes a transmembrane protein predominantly expressed in the nervous system, where it regulates neuronal survival, differentiation, and synaptic plasticity. This protein interacts with membrane receptors, cytosolic signaling components, and cytoskeletal proteins, acting as a scaffold mediating crosstalk between the neurotrophin pathway and other intracellular signaling pathways.
Aberrant expression is associated with neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. Mutations can cause syndromes characterized by spastic paraplegia, intellectual disability, nystagmus, and obesity.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
