Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. Stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

The antiserum detects recombinant and native IL-8 present in body fluids and cell supernatants in ELISA. Although likely functional, this antiserum has not been evaluated in other assays, including neutralization and immunohistochemistry.

Target Information

Interleukin 8 (IL-8, CXCL8) is a 72-amino-acid pro-inflammatory factor belonging to the CXC chemokine subfamily. It binds to IL-8RA and IL-8RB receptors and functions as a chemoattractant and potent angiogenic factor. IL-8 expression and secretion are induced by diverse inflammatory stimuli in many cells, including macrophages and endothelial cells. In endothelial cells, IL-8 is stored in Weibel-Palade bodies.

IL-8 contains the ELR-motif (N-terminal Glu-Leu-Arg sequence) and signals through CXCR1 and CXCR2 receptors. Previous names include NAP-1, GCP-1, MONAP, and protein 3-10C. IL-8 and related CXC chemokines form a gene cluster on chromosome 4q. Studies indicate IL-8 plays roles in tumor angiogenesis, growth, and bronchiolitis pathogenesis.
