Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cofactor required by pancreatic lipase for efficient dietary lipid hydrolysis. It binds to the C-terminal, non-catalytic domain of lipase, stabilizing its active conformation and enhancing hydrophobic binding. This cofactor enables lipase to attach noncovalently to lipid micelles, counteracting bile salt interference. Expression is limited to pancreatic acinar cells, and three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
