Target Information
TAOK1 is a serine/threonine-protein kinase involved in the regulation of the p38-containing stress-responsive MAP kinase pathway and extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase (ERK) kinases (MEKs).
The activation of and binding to MEK3 by TAOK1 implicates it in the regulation of the p38-containing stress-responsive MAP kinase pathway.
TAOK1 (also known as MARKK) acts as a microtubule affinity-regulating kinase and is an important regulator of mitotic progression, required for both chromosome congression and checkpoint-induced anaphase delay.
It is involved in processes such as the p38/MAPK14 stress-activated MAPK cascade, DNA damage response, and cytoskeleton stability regulation.
TAOK1 phosphorylates MAP2K3, MAP2K6, and MARK2, acting as an activator of the p38/MAPK cascade by mediating phosphorylation and subsequent activation of upstream MAP2K3 and MAP2K6 kinases.
It is also involved in G-protein coupled receptor signaling to p38/MAPK14 and functions in the G2/M transition DNA damage checkpoint by activating the p38/MAPK14 stress-activated MAPK cascade.
Additionally, TAOK1 regulates cytoskeleton stability and apoptosis.
