Target Information
Phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC) is essential for receptor-mediated signal transduction, generating the second messengers inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate and diacylglycerol from phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate. Mammalian PLC isozymes include PLC beta1–4, PLC gamma1–2, PLC delta1–2, and PLC epsilon.
PLC delta1 acts as a calcium signal amplifier and is activated by atypical GTP-binding proteins. It functions as an effector for transglutaminase II-mediated oxytocin receptor and alpha1B-adrenoreceptor signaling. Mouse PLC delta1 is highly expressed in brain, heart, lung, and testis, and its abnormal accumulation has been observed in Alzheimer’s disease brains.
PLC delta2 is expressed in intestinal metaplasia and adenocarcinoma, serving as a potential marker for gastric malignant transformation.
