Target Information

The PPP2R2B gene encodes a regulatory subunit of protein phosphatase 2 (PP2A), one of the major Ser/Thr phosphatases involved in the negative regulation of cell growth and division. The enzyme consists of a catalytic subunit and a constant regulatory subunit, which associates with various regulatory subunits to modulate substrate specificity and catalytic activity. The PPP2R2B product belongs to the B55 subfamily and encodes the beta isoform. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal dominant spinocerebellar ataxia 12 (SCA12), a neurodegenerative disorder affecting coordination and motor control. Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist, some containing expanded CAG trinucleotide repeats in the 5′ UTR in SCA12 cases.
