Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes an extracellular/luminal epitope of CD82, a widely expressed cell surface protein of the tetraspanin family. CD82 is also found in endosome/lysosome compartments.
Functional Application: Inhibition.
Target Information
CD82 is a metastasis suppressor gene product and a membrane glycoprotein belonging to the transmembrane 4 superfamily. Expression of this gene is downregulated in tumor progression of human cancers and can be activated by p53 through a consensus binding sequence in its promoter. Expression of CD82 and p53 are strongly correlated, and loss of both proteins is associated with poor survival in prostate cancer patients. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
