Target Information
Prolactin (PRL) is a pituitary hormone involved in the stimulation of milk production, salt and water regulation, growth, development, and reproduction. PRL exerts its influence through binding to the transmembrane prolactin receptor (PRLR), a member of the cytokine receptor family. PRLR varies in size (short and long forms) depending on tissue source and species, ranging from approximately 40 kDa to 100 kDa.
It consists of an extracellular region with five cysteines containing the prolactin binding site, a single transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic region that influences ligand binding and regulates cellular function.
