Target Information
Plasma prekallikrein is a glycoprotein involved in blood coagulation, fibrinolysis, kinin generation, and inflammation. It is synthesized in the liver and secreted into the blood as a single polypeptide chain. Conversion to plasma kallikrein occurs via cleavage by factor XIIa, resulting in a heavy and light chain connected by a disulfide bond. The heavy chain contains four apple domains critical for pro-coagulant activity, while the light chain harbors the catalytic domain homologous to trypsin-like serine proteases. Deficiency leads to prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time.
