Target Information

This gene encodes a subunit of mitochondrial ATP synthase. Mitochondrial ATP synthase catalyzes ATP synthesis utilizing an electrochemical gradient of protons across the inner membrane during oxidative phosphorylation.
ATP synthase consists of two linked multi-subunit complexes:

• F1: Soluble catalytic core
• Fo: Membrane-spanning component forming the proton channel

The catalytic portion includes five subunits (α, β, γ, δ, ε) with a stoichiometry of 3α, 3β, and one each of the others.
This gene encodes the δ subunit of the catalytic core. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same isoform have been identified.
