Target Information
CD1a is a non-polymorphic MHC Class I–related cell surface glycoprotein expressed in association with beta-2 microglobulin. It is found on cortical thymocytes, epidermal Langerhans cells, dendritic cells, certain T-cell leukemias, and other tissues. CD1a mediates presentation of lipid and glycolipid antigens to T cells. The human genome contains five CD1 family genes (CD1a, b, c, d, e) organized on chromosome 1. CD1a localizes to the plasma membrane and early endocytic vesicles. Alternatively spliced transcript variants of CD1a have been observed, though their biological validity is undetermined.
