Target Information
Ribosomes, the organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 structurally distinct proteins.
This gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L14E family. It contains a basic region-leucine zipper (bZIP)-like domain and is located in the cytoplasm.
The gene includes a polymorphic trinucleotide (GCT) repeat tract, resulting in a stretch of alanine residues. Multiple transcript variants exist but encode the same protein. As typical for ribosomal protein genes, multiple processed pseudogenes are dispersed throughout the genome.
