This antibody detects endogenous levels of total MRPL20 protein.
Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and participate in protein synthesis within mitochondria. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, containing approximately 75% protein and 25% rRNA. Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mitoribosomes lack 5S rRNA. The proteins composing mitoribosomes differ significantly among species in sequence and biochemical properties, complicating recognition by homology. The MRPL20 gene encodes a 39S subunit protein, and a pseudogene corresponding to this gene is located on chromosome 21q.
