Target Information
IRF8 (interferon regulatory factor 8) is a transcriptional activator or repressor that binds to the upstream regulatory regions of type I IFN and IFN-inducible MHC class I genes. IRF8 negatively regulates immune system cells and plays a role in CD8+ dendritic cell differentiation through complex formation with the BATF-JUNB heterodimer. This complex recognizes AICE sequences, leading to cooperative binding and gene activation. Mutations in IRF8 can cause immunodeficiency 32A and 32B.
