Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by remarkable biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and have an isoelectric pH between 4.9 and 7.8.
Each epithelial tissue expresses specific cytokeratin subtypes that reflect its type and differentiation state. Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns are valuable in distinguishing different epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies assist in differential tumor diagnosis using immunohistochemistry and are also useful in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
