Target Information

The CCAAT-binding factor NF-Y is a heteromeric transcription factor that specifically binds to CCAAT sequences in many eukaryotic genes. NF-Y consists of three subunits: NF-YA, NF-YB, and NF-YC. All three components are required for DNA binding.
Each NF-Y subunit contains a conserved segment necessary for NF-Y–DNA complex formation, homologous to the histone-fold motif found in eukaryotic histones. The DNA-binding domains of NF-YB and NF-YC interact through a histone-fold "handshake" motif, similar to the interaction between histone proteins H2B and H2A.
