Target Information

MAPK7 (ERK5) serine/threonine kinase is a member of the MAP kinase family and participates in diverse cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development.
MAPK7 is activated by MAP2K5/MEK5 and mediates downstream signaling of various receptors. Upon extracellular stimulation, MAPK7 translocates to the nucleus to regulate gene expression via phosphorylation of transcription factors.
Gene deletion in mice causes defective vascular and cardiac development, indicating its essential role in endothelial function and vascular integrity.
ERK5 is expressed in multiple adult tissues including heart, placenta, lung, kidney, and skeletal muscle, but is not detectable in liver.
Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding two distinct isoforms have been reported.
