FGFR4는 수용체 티로신 키나아제(FGFR) 계열에 속하는 단백질로, 혈관신생, 근형성, 골형성, 세포 분화 및 조직 재생 등 다양한 세포 기능을 조절합니다. 또한 암, 류머티즘성 관절염, 당뇨병성 망막병증 등 여러 질환과 관련이 있습니다. FGFR4는 담즙산 합성의 속도 제한 효소인 CYP7A1의 발현을 FGF19 자극에 따라 정상적으로 억제하는 데 필요하며, 폐 발달 및 골격근 세포 계통 발달에도 관여합니다.
