Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. Their molecular weights range from approximately 40 kDa to 68 kDa, with isoelectric points between pH 4.9 and 7.8.
Each cytokeratin subtype (numbered 1–20) is expressed in specific epithelial tissues and correlates with the type and differentiation state of the epithelium.
Cytokeratin expression profiles are valuable in distinguishing epithelial malignancies and are widely used in immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, and flow cytometry for tumor characterization.
