Target Information
MLCK (also known as MYLK3) is a myosin regulatory light chain kinase that facilitates muscle contraction via phosphorylation of myosin light chains, promoting interaction with actin filaments. It plays a key role in vascular permeability, tissue edema formation, and neuronal signaling processes such as astrocytic process growth and synaptic transmitter release. MLCK also participates in fibroblast apoptosis signaling. Both smooth muscle and non-muscle isoforms are expressed across various tissues, with non-muscle isoform 2 being predominant. The Telokin isoform binds calmodulin and is widely expressed. MLCK is likely down-regulated by phosphorylation and contains one fibronectin type III domain and nine immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains.
