Product Specific Information

A 1:5000 dilution of MA5-45327 was sufficient for detection of ubiquitin conjugates in 2.5 µg of HeLa cell lysate by electrochemiluminescence analysis using goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
Detects polyubiquitinated proteins and ubiquitin chains. Does not detect monoubiquitinated proteins nor free ubiquitin.

Target Information

Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein that plays a major role in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein consisting of either polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin fused to an unrelated protein. The gene encodes a fusion protein consisting of ubiquitin at the N terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C terminus. When expressed in yeast, the protein is post-translationally processed to generate free ubiquitin monomer and ribosomal protein S27a. Ribosomal protein S27a is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit, contains C4-type zinc finger domains, and is located in the cytoplasm. Pseudogenes derived from this gene are present in the genome. Similarly, ribosomal proteins L40 and S30 are synthesized as fusion proteins with ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins.
