Product Specific Information
A 1:5000 dilution of MA5-45329 was sufficient for detection of ubiquitin conjugates in 2.5 µg of HeLa cell lysate by electrochemiluminescence analysis using goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
Detects ubiquitinated proteins and ubiquitin chains. Does not detect free ubiquitin.
Target Information
Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein involved in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein, either as polyubiquitin chains or as a single ubiquitin fused to another protein.
This gene encodes a fusion protein consisting of ubiquitin at the N terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C terminus. When expressed, it is processed to generate free ubiquitin and ribosomal protein S27a.
Ribosomal protein S27a is part of the 40S ribosomal subunit, contains C4-type zinc finger domains, and is localized in the cytoplasm. Pseudogenes derived from this gene are present in the genome.
Similarly, ribosomal proteins L40 and S30 are also synthesized as fusion proteins with ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist but encode the same proteins.
