Target Information
CELSR1 is a member of the flamingo subfamily, part of the cadherin superfamily. The flamingo subfamily consists of nonclassic type cadherins that do not interact with catenins. These cadherins are located at the plasma membrane and possess nine cadherin domains, seven epidermal growth factor-like repeats, and two laminin A G-type repeats in their ectodomain. They also contain seven transmembrane domains, a unique feature of this subfamily. CELSR1 proteins are thought to act as receptors involved in contact-mediated communication, with cadherin domains enabling homophilic binding and EGF-like domains mediating cell adhesion and receptor-ligand interactions. This gene is developmentally regulated and neural-specific, playing an unspecified role in early embryogenesis.
