Target Information
Chemokines play important roles in inflammation and are critical for the recruitment of effector immune cells to sites of infection. Chemokines activate leukocytes by binding to G protein coupled receptors. The chemokine receptor subtypes are divided into two major groups, CXCR and CCR, based on chemokine classes.
CCR1, one of the CCR receptors, is expressed on neutrophils, monocytes, lymphocytes, and eosinophils. It binds leukocyte chemoattractants such as macrophage-inflammatory protein (MIP-1), eotaxin, and other related chemokines.
Mice lacking CCR1 show defects in neutrophil trafficking and proliferation.
