Target Information

CCR8 encodes a member of the beta chemokine receptor family, predicted to be a seven-transmembrane protein similar to G protein-coupled receptors. Chemokines and their receptors are crucial for migration of various cell types into inflammatory sites. This receptor is preferentially expressed in the thymus.
Ligands include I-309, thymus activation-regulated cytokine (TARC), and macrophage inflammatory protein-1 beta (MIP1β).
Studies suggest its role in regulation of monocyte chemotaxis and thymic cell apoptosis, contributing to proper positioning of activated T cells within antigenic challenge sites and specialized lymphoid areas.
CCR8 expression has been reported in spleen, thymus, natural killer cells, monocytes, T cells, and at lower levels in peripheral blood leukocytes.
