Target Information
Septin 2 is a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase required for proper organization of the actin cytoskeleton. It plays a crucial role in the formation of polarized columnar-shaped epithelium by maintaining polyglutamylated microtubules, facilitating efficient vesicle transport, and preventing MAP4 binding to tubulin. Septin 2 is also essential for mitotic progression, forming a scaffold at the midplane of the mitotic spindle to maintain CENPE localization at kinetochores, aiding chromosome congression. During anaphase, it contributes to chromosome segregation and spindle elongation. Additionally, Septin 2 is involved in ciliogenesis and collective cell movements.
