Target Information
SERPINA3 encodes Alpha-1-Antichymotrypsin (Alpha-1-ACT), an early-stage acute-phase plasma protein and serine protease inhibitor that preferentially inactivates chymotrypsin, cathepsin G, and chymase.
Alpha-1-ACT is associated with amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease and aged human and monkey brains. Regulation of serine proteases and their inhibitors is critical in neuromuscular differentiation.
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA), a chymotrypsin-like serine protease, predominantly complexes with Alpha-1-ACT.
