Antibody detects endogenous levels of HBP1 only when phosphorylated at Ser380.
Target Information
The HMG-box protein-1 (HBP1) is a member of the HMG family of transcription factors, characterized by the presence of a conserved HMG 1 box motif that mediates DNA binding.
HBP1 binds to tumor suppressor proteins Rb and p130 and initiates cell cycle arrest. This arrest is essential for terminal cell differentiation and coordinated expression of tissue-specific genes.
Continued HBP1 activity inhibits tissue-specific gene expression by associating with MyoD proteins. In muscle cell differentiation, MyoD family transcription factors (Myf5, MyoD, myogenein) induce expression of cell-type specific proteins, contributing to phenotype development.
Thus, terminal differentiation progression depends on decreased HBP1 activity and activation of MyoD-induced gene transcription.
