Target Information
Neurofilaments are intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons, essential for maintaining neuronal caliber. They are composed mainly of three major proteins: NF-L (light), NF-M (medium), and NF-H (heavy).
- NF-L: Light or low molecular weight microfilament subunit (~70 kDa).
- NF-M & NF-H: Heavier subunits (NF-H runs 180–220 kDa), varying by species.
Expression of these neuronal intermediate filament proteins is tissue-specific and developmentally regulated.
