Target Information
Neurexophilin-1 (NPH1/NXPH1), Neurexophilin-2 (NPH2/NXPH2), and Neurexophilin-3 (NPH3/NXPH3) belong to the Neurexophilin family (Neurexophilin-1–4), a group of neuropeptide-like glycoproteins processed proteolytically after synthesis.
Neurexophilin-1–3 are secreted proteins functioning as signaling molecules that specifically bind to target proteins such as neurexin I-alpha, which promotes adhesion between dendrites and axons and is essential for neurotransmitter release.
Neurexophilin-1 is mainly expressed in spleen tissue, Neurexophilin-2 primarily in kidney, and Neurexophilin-2 and -3 are highly expressed in brain.
Defects in Neurexophilin-1 gene may be associated with schizophrenia, characterized by abnormal perception of reality.
