Target Information
VLR-1 (also known as TRPV2) is a calcium-permeable, non-selective cation channel with outward rectification. It is regulated in part by growth factors such as IGF1, PDGF, and morphogenetic neuropeptides. Unlike TRPV1, VRL-1 does not respond to capsaicin, acid, or moderate heat but is activated by high temperatures (~52°C). It is prominently expressed in medium- to large-diameter sensory neurons and may play a role in high-threshold heat response. Its expression beyond the sensory nervous system suggests activation by stimuli other than heat. VRL-1 is one of six members of the vanilloid-like TRP-channel family, now classified as the TRPV family.
