Product Specific Information
The SK1 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD8a molecule, an approximately 32–34 kDa cell surface receptor expressed as a heterodimer with the CD8 beta chain (CD8α/β) or as a homodimer (CD8α/α). CD8a is expressed on most thymocytes and a subset of mature T cells and NK cells. CD8 binds to MHC class I and, through association with protein tyrosine kinase p56lck, plays a key role in T-cell development and activation.

Target Information
Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin family involved in T cell signal transduction, differentiation, and activation. CD8 is mainly expressed on T cells as a disulfide-linked heterodimer of CD8α and CD8β, functioning as a co-receptor with TCR for MHC class I molecules. The CD8α chain is essential for MHC-I binding and is also expressed as a homodimer on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells. Ligation of MHC-I/peptide complexes triggers recruitment of protein tyrosine kinase Lck, leading to lymphokine production and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation. Activated CTLs are crucial for pathogen and tumor cell clearance, and their differentiation is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
