Target Information
PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease of the kallikrein family, produced by prostate epithelium and abundant in seminal fluid. It can be detected in serum of patients with prostate carcinoma, predominantly complexed with alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (ACT). A higher proportion of PSA-ACT complex is observed in prostate cancer compared to benign prostatic hyperplasia. PSA is commonly used to confirm prostatic acinar cell origin in primary and metastatic carcinoma and to differentiate from non-prostatic carcinoma mimics.
