Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is the 80-kDa subunit of the Ku heterodimer protein, also known as ATP-dependent DNA helicase II or DNA repair protein XRCC5. Ku is the DNA-binding component of the DNA-dependent protein kinase complex and functions with DNA ligase IV–XRCC4 in repairing DNA double-strand breaks via non-homologous end joining and completing V(D)J recombination. Mutations in this gene can affect DNA repair and recombination, and certain polymorphisms are associated with cancer susceptibility and radiosensitivity.
