PA1-889 detects human methyl CpG binding domain protein 1 (MBD1) recombinant protein.
It has been successfully used in Western blot procedures, detecting an ~83 kDa protein representing recombinant human MBD1.
The immunizing peptide corresponds to amino acid residues 593–605 from human MBD1 protein.
The immunizing peptide (Cat. # PEP-130) is available for use in neutralization and control experiments.

Target Information

Methyl-CpG-binding domain protein 1 (MBD1) is a mammalian protein that specifically binds methylated regions of DNA. It acts as a transcriptional repressor by binding CpG islands in promoters where DNA is methylated at position 5 of cytosine within CpG dinucleotides. Binding is abolished by 7-mG produced by DNA damage (e.g., MMS exposure).
MBD1 contributes to gene silencing by recruiting AFT7IP, which in turn recruits factors such as histone methyltransferase SETDB1. Isoform 1 and isoform 2 can also repress transcription from unmethylated promoters.
