Target Information
Cytochrome C is an electron transporting protein located in the intermembrane space of mitochondria, playing a critical role in oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production. Release of cytochrome C into the cytosol is triggered by apoptotic stimuli, where it binds to apoptotic protease activating factor to activate procaspase 9. Cytosolic cytochrome C also activates caspase 3, a key effector of apoptosis.
