Target Information

MAPK7 (ERK5) serine/threonine kinase is a member of the MAP kinase family involved in cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development.
MAPK7 is activated by MAP2K5/MEK5 and participates in downstream receptor signaling. Upon activation, MAPK7 translocates to the nucleus to regulate gene expression by phosphorylating transcription factors.
Gene deletion in mice leads to defective blood vessel and cardiac development, resulting in embryonic lethality.
ERK5 is critical for endothelial function and blood vessel integrity, and is expressed in many adult tissues—abundantly in heart, placenta, lung, kidney, and skeletal muscle—but not detectable in liver.
