Target Information
Carbonic anhydrase (CA) is an enzyme that catalyzes the rapid interconversion of carbon dioxide and water into carbonic acid, protons, and bicarbonate ions. It is abundant in mammalian tissues and plays a key role in pH regulation.
CA IX is a hypoxia-inducible membrane-associated isoform regulated by HIF-1α. It serves as a reliable histochemical marker of hypoxia, as its inhibition enhances cell death under hypoxic conditions.
