C9orf41은 N-methyltransferase로서, carnosine으로부터 anserine(beta-alanyl-N(Pi)-methyl-L-histidine)을 형성하는 반응을 매개합니다.
Anserine은 vertebrate 골격근에서 풍부하게 존재하는 carnosine(beta-alanyl-L-histidine)의 메틸화 유도체이며, Gly-Gly-His, Gly-His, homocarnosine(GABA-His) 등의 다른 L-histidine 함유 di-/tripeptide도 메틸화합니다.
